History of the Parish

The parish of Nuestra Señora del Pilar was officially established with a decree by Bishop Msgr. Charles V Grahmann on January 8, 2001 just days after the Diocese of Dallas acquired a Baptist church located at 4455 W. Illinois Ave Dallas TX. 75211. Administration assigned Father Wilmer Jesus Daza as pastor, who remains to this day.

Four years before the decree was established, the Bishop had a new parish in mind for this area, because due to the growth of the Hispanic population, churches - especially Santa Cecilia and Santa Clara - were saturated with faithful.

On February 3, 2001, after more than 5000 invitations had been distributed house to house, the first mass presided by Mr. Bishop Grahmann was held. Since then the attendance at Sunday Mass has been increasing. Before the day of Bishop’s celebration, attendance was an average of 75 people, the day of Bishop’s celebration, we had nearly 600 people, and attendance has now reached 5400 people on the weekend.

The parish of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, which began in the third millennium, has latent inspiration and motivation of the Virgin Mary’s appearance to James the apostle..... Today as in the early centuries the parish priest and many faithful are motivated to working on this lot that has been entrusted to us.

Currently the parish has 39 groups, including 24 communities of the Neocatechumenal Way, 9 couples’ communities, a group of people who welcome the Sunday faithful, a group of young adults, a group of young teenagers, a group of altar boys, a group of veneration of the Divine Child Jesus, Legion of Mary in English and an innumerable group of children preparing for the sacraments, which we have not enough classrooms causing us to provide catechism three days a week.

The support of our faithful for the past 14 years, has been fundamental and unconditional, making us one of the most active parishes in the diocese.

The presence of the living Christ drives us every day to proclaim the mystery of the Resurrection, and the Virgin Mary in the title of Nuestra Señora del Pilar holds the work that the Lord has entrusted to us.
